BENTON COUNTY (4-20) – Work to construct the interchange that connects I-49 to the new U.S. Highway 412 Northern Bypass requires long-term lane closures on I-49 in Benton County, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Work within the I-49 median will require the contractor to close the inside northbound and southbound I-49 lanes beginning north of Exit 76 (Wagon Wheel Road) and ending south of Exit 78 (State Highway 264).

The closures will begin Thursday, April 21 and are anticipated to continue through project completion. Traffic will be controlled using a precast barrier wall, barrels, electronic message boards, and warning signs.

In addition, overnight lane closures are required to install the traffic control devices.

Northbound I-49 will be reduced to one lane Thursday, April 21 between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., and Friday, April 22, between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., weather permitting, to install the traffic control devices.

Southbound I-49 will be reduced to one lane Friday, April 22 between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., and Saturday, April 23 between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m., weather permitting, to install the traffic control devices.

This project is part of AHTD's Connecting Arkansas Program and constructs approximately four miles of the new four-lane U.S. Highway 412 Bypass, which extends from Interstate 49 to State Highway 112. The U.S. Highway 412 Bypass project will provide a principal east-west route north of the Springdale Metropolitan Area.
