BENTON COUNTY (8-19) – Construction on the Bella Vista Bypass (State Highway 549/Future I-49) will require a lane closure on Peach Orchard Road in Benton County, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

On Monday, August 22, crews will be installing cross drains on Peach Orchard Road. The work will reduce traffic to one lane beginning half a mile from its intersection with U.S. Highway 71 and ending west of the new Peach Orchard Road overpass above Highway 549. Eastbound and westbound lanes will alternately be closed during work hours. Two-lane traffic will be reestablished during non-work hours.

The lane closure will begin Monday, August 22 and continue through Friday, August 26, weather permitting. One-lane traffic will be in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Traffic will be controlled using signage and flaggers. Drivers may experience delays on Peach Orchard Road during the closure. This work was originally scheduled for August 1 through August 5, but was rescheduled.

This project (CA0904) is constructing approximately 6 miles of the bypass, extending from Highway 71B to Highway 72 South. The project involves the initial two lanes of a four-lane facility. The project is part of the Connecting Arkansas Program (CAP), which is funded through a 10-year, half-cent sales tax. The CAP's 36 projects in 19 corridors are improving Arkansas' transportation system by expanding selected two-lane roadways to four-lane highways and adding new lanes to identified interstate highways. Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ArkansasHighways.com. You can also follow us on Twitter @AHTD.
