LITTLE ROCK (1-25) – Construction work on I-49 in Springdale will require overnight lane closures on U.S. Highway 412 (West Sunset Avenue), according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

The contractor will be installing a safety platform and removing a section of the bridge decks to accommodate the widening of I-49. Eastbound and westbound lanes on U.S. Highway 412 will alternately be reduced to one lane between the east and west I-49 access ramp intersections. Mainline traffic on I-49 will not be affected.

The lane closures will occur nightly between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. The closures began January 4, 2016 and will end Friday, February 19, 2016, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using flaggers and barrels.

This project is part of AHTD's Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening
4.5 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from Highway 71B in Johnson to Highway 412 in Springdale. The project is anticipated to be complete in early 2017. More information on this $28.3 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.

Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ArkansasHighways.com. You can also follow us on Twitter @AHTD.
