WASHINGTON COUNTY (2-5) – Construction work on I-49 in Johnson and Springdale requires overnight lane closures, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Beginning at 8:00 p.m. February 10, crews will be removing old pavement markings on bridges at Johnson Mill Boulevard in Johnson (Exit 69) and U.S. Highway 412 (Exit 72) in Springdale. Northbound and southbound lanes will alternately be reduced to one lane between mile markers 68 and 72 to enable crews to work in each lane. The lane closure will alternate between inside and outside lanes as well.

The overnight lane closures will occur nightly starting on Wednesday, February 10 and ending on Saturday, February 13, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using signage and barrels.

Northbound I-49 lane closures will occur between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Southbound I-49 lane closures will occur between 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

This project is part of AHTD's Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening 4.5 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from U.S. Highway 71B in Johnson to U.S. Highway 412 in Springdale. The project is anticipated to be complete in late 2016. More information on this $28.3 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.
