WASHINGTON COUNTY (7-22) – Construction work on I-49 in Springdale requires overnight lane closures on Johnson Mill Boulevard, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.
Beginning at 9:00 p.m. on Monday, July 25, crews will be painting structural steel girders at the I-49 overpass on Johnson Mill Boulevard (Exit 69). Eastbound and westbound lanes on Johnson Mill Boulevard between the I-49 ramp intersections will alternately be closed to allow for construction. Single-lane traffic will be maintained in each direction during the work. Main lane traffic on I-49 will not be affected.
The overnight lane closures will occur nightly from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. starting Monday, July 25 and ending Saturday morning, July 30, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using signage, barrels, and flaggers.
This project is part of AHTD's Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening
4.5 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from U.S. Highway 71B in Johnson to U.S. Highway 412 in Springdale. The project is anticipated to be complete in late 2016. More information on this $28.3 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.
