WASHINGTON & BENTON COUNTIES (8-25) – Construction work on I-49 in Springdale requires overnight lane closures on I-49, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.
Work continues Sunday night, August 28, as crews remove temporary barriers and place the final surface on northbound and southbound lanes of I-49. The work will extend between Sunset Avenue/U.S. Highway 412 (Exit 72) and the Elm Springs Road interchange (Exit 73). The median and outside lanes of I-49 between Sunset Avenue/U.S. Highway 412 (Exit 72) and Wagon Wheel Road (Exit 76) will alternately be closed during this time to allow for construction.
The southbound exit ramp and northbound entrance ramp at the Elm Springs Road interchange will also be closed to traffic on altering nights for resurfacing. Motorists wishing to access I-49 at Elm Springs Road will need to use the Sunset Avenue/U.S. Highway 412 interchange or the Wagon Wheel Road interchange.
The overnight lane closures will occur nightly starting on Sunday, August 28 and ending Thursday morning, September 1, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using signage and barrels.
- Northbound I-49 lane closures will occur between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
- Southbound I-49 lane closures will occur between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
- Southbound exit ramp closure at Elm Springs Road interchange will occur Monday, August 29 between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
- Northbound exit ramp closure at Elm Springs Road interchange will occur Tuesday, August 30 between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
This project (Job CA1101) is part of AHTD's Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening 3.4 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from U.S. Highway 412 to Wagon Wheel Road in Springdale. The project is anticipated to be complete in late 2016.
