BENTON COUNTY (8-26) – Construction work on I-49 in Rogers and Bentonville requires overnight lane closures on I-49, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Beginning Sunday night, August 28, crews will be placing a barrier wall along the inside lanes of northbound and southbound I-49. The inside lanes will be closed beginning south of Southeast Walton Boulevard/West Walnut Street (Exit 85) and ending at Central Avenue/State Highway 72 (Exit 88) to allow for construction.

The lanes will be closed nightly beginning Sunday, August 28 through Friday, September 9 from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., weather permitting. During the Labor Day weekend, which is considered Friday morning, September 2 through Tuesday night, September 6, all lanes will remain open. Traffic will be controlled using signage and barrels.

This project (Job CA0902) is part of AHTD's Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening 3.5 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from Highway 62/102 to Highway 72 and includes constructing auxiliary lanes from Highway 62/102 toward Southeast Walton Boulevard. More information on this $27.7 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.

Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ArkansasHighways.com. You can also follow us on Twitter @AHTD.
