BENTON COUNTY (10-21) – Construction work on I-49 in Bentonville requires overnight lane closures on I-49, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Beginning Monday night, October 24, crews will be constructing overhead temporary structures at the State Highway 72 overpass over I-49 in Bentonville. The inside and outside lanes of I-49 will alternately be closed for northbound and southbound traffic between mile markers 87 and 89 to allow for construction. One lane in each direction will remain open during the work.

The lanes will be closed nightly from Monday night, October 24 through Thursday morning, October 27 from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using signage and barrels.

This project (Job CA0902) is part of AHTD's Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening 3.5 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from Highway 62/102 to Highway 72 and includes constructing auxiliary lanes from Highway 62/102 toward Southeast Walton Boulevard. More information on this $27.7 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.

Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ArkansasHighways.com. You can also follow us on Twitter @AHTD
