BENTON COUNTY (7-3) – Construction on Interstate 49 in Bentonville requires overnight lane closures on State Highway 72, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Beginning Wednesday night, July 5, bridge demolition on the Highway 72 bridge (Exit 88) will require eastbound and westbound lane closures between McClain Road and McCollum Drive. Traffic will be reduced to one lane on Highway 72 between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on the following nights:

  • Wednesday, July 5 through Friday, July 7
  • Sunday, July 9 through Friday, July 14
  • Sunday, July 16 through Friday, July 21
  • Sunday, July 23 through Friday, July 28

Traffic will be controlled with signage, traffic barrels, and flaggers.

This project (Job CA0902) is part of AHTD's Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening 3.5 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from Highway 62/102 to Highway 72 and includes constructing auxiliary lanes from Highway 62/102 toward Southeast Walton Boulevard.
