BENTON COUNTY (7-17) – Construction on Interstate 49 in Bentonville requires daytime lane closures on State Highway 72, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Beginning Wednesday, July 19, crews will be laying pavement, which will require eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 72 to alternately be closed between McCollum Drive and Beau Terre Drive. These closures will occur during off-peak hours from Wednesday, July 19 through Wednesday, July 26.

Traffic using the I-49 entrance and exit ramps at Exit 88 may be impacted during the closures. Traffic will be controlled with traffic barrels and flaggers.

This project (Job CA0902) is part of AHTD's Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening 3.5 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from Highway 62/102 to Highway 72 and includes constructing auxiliary lanes from Highway 62/102 toward Southeast Walton Boulevard. More information on this $27.7 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.

Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ArkansasHighways.com. You can also follow us on Twitter @AHTD.
