BENTON COUNTY (9-22) – Construction work on Interstate 49 in Bentonville and Rogers requires nighttime lane closures, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT) officials.
Beginning Sunday night, September 24, crews will be installing overhead signs and painting bridges on I-49. Northbound and southbound lanes will alternately be closed between U.S. Highway 62/102 (Exit 86) and Central Avenue/State Highway 72 (Exit 88). During the lane closures, the work will necessitate short, intermittent traffic stops for all lanes while work is performed over the interstate. Weather permitting, these closures will occur intermittently between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. from Sunday, September 24 to Friday, October 13.
Traffic control will be handled by the Arkansas State Police, along with signage and traffic barrels. The public is advised to be cautious if traveling in this work zone and are encouraged to find alternative routes to avoid the interstate closure.
This project (Job CA0902) is part of ArDOT's Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening 3.5 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from Highway 62/102 to Highway 72 and includes constructing auxiliary lanes from Highway 62/102 toward Southeast Walton Boulevard. More information on this $27.7 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.
Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ARDOT.gov. You can also follow us on Twitter @myARDOT.
