LITTLE ROCK (3-5) - The Arkansas State Highway Commission approved a bid for improvements to a roadway in Benton County, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

The purpose of the project is to construct 6.3 miles of two lane roadway with ramps and overpasses for Highway 71 (Bella Vista Bypass). The work will extend from Highway 71B to Highway 72 South.

Kolb Grading, LLC of Weldon Springs, Missouri was awarded the contract at $52,605,673.03.

Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting. The project should be complete by summer 2017.

This project is part of the 2012 Connecting Arkansas Program that will improve 180 miles of Arkansas' roadways over ten years.
