LITTLE ROCK (9-8) – The Arkansas State Highway Commission has approved a bid for improvements to a roadway in Benton and Washington Counties, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

The purpose of the project is to widen 3.4 miles of Interstate 49 in Benton and Washington Counties. The work will extend from Highway 412 (W. Sunset Avenue) northward to Wagon Wheel Road in Springdale.

APAC-Central, Inc. of Fayetteville was awarded the contract at $21,649,340.85.

Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting. The project is scheduled to be complete in early 2017.
