Overview

These projects contribute to the four-lane widening of Highway 167 between Interstate 530 and El Dorado. When complete, the additional lanes will enhance the transportation connection along Highway 167, increase capacity, and improve traveler safety.

Job CA0701 Highway 167 Improvements

This project widened approximately 1.8 miles of Highway 167 to four lanes with a painted median in Hampton. 

  • Construction Overview
    - Widened to 4 lanes with a painted median
    - New traffic signal at Highway 167/278 intersection
    - Constructed curb and gutter, and sidewalks
    - Constructed storm sewer and box culverts
    - Project substantially complete September 2022

  • Bid Opening
    Arkansas Department of Transportation opened contractor bids in February 2020, and the Arkansas State Highway Commission approved a bid for improvements by McGeorge Contracting, Co., awarding the project for $12.5 million.
  • Public Meeting
    A public involvement meeting was held December 15, 2015 in Hampton to present and discuss the proposed plans to widen Highway 167 in Hampton. A flier, comment form, and map can be downloaded here.

Job CA0702 Hampton – Highway 274

This project widened approximately 4.5 miles of Highway 167 to four lanes, extending generally from Hampton to Highway 274 in Calhoun County.

  • Construction Overview
    - Widened to four travel lanes with a painted median
    - Replaced bridge structures with box culverts
    - The project was substantially complete in April 2019

  • Bid Opening
    Arkansas Department of Transportation (formerly AHTD) opened bids in July 2017. The Arkansas State Highway Commission approved a bid for improvements by McGeorge Contracting and awarded the project for $21.8 million.
  • Public Meeting
    A public involvement meeting was held January 14, 2016 to present and discuss the proposed plans to widen Highway 167 from Hampton to Highway 274. A flier, comment form, and map can be downloaded here.

Job CA0703 Highway 274 – North

This project widened approximately 7 miles of Highway 167 to four lanes, extending north from Highway 274 in Calhoun County.

  • Construction Overview
    - Widened to 4 travel lanes with a painted center median
    - Champagnolle Creek bridge construction
    - Box culvert construction
    - Earthwork and drainage
    - Final surface and pavement markings
    - Construction substantially complete in August 2020

    Arkansas Department of Transportation opened bids in February 2018. The Arkansas State Highway Commission approved a bid for improvements by D & J Construction Company and awarded the project for $28.9 million.
  • Public Involvement Meeting
    A public involvement meeting was held February 25, 2016 in Fordyce to present and discuss the proposed plans to Highway 167 extending north from Hwy. 274 in Calhoun County. A flier, comment form, and map can be downloaded here.

This project widened approximately 5.5 miles of Highway 167 to four lanes and a center turn lane, extending south from Highway 79 in Calhoun County.

    - Replaced a bridge structure with a box culvert
    - Earthwork and drainage
    - Construction substantially complete May 2022
