LITTLE ROCK (9-14) – Work on the new U.S. Highway 412 Northern Bypass around the city of Springdale has progressed to a stage that requires temporary closure of Puppy Creek Road to through traffic, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

On Wednesday, September 16, temporary barricades will restrict through traffic in both directions along Puppy Creek Road. The closure will begin west of Sharp Springs Road and end near the intersection with Willard Lane. Through traffic can use Spring Creek Road, which connects to State Highway 264, as an alternate route.

The roadway closure is needed to construct the new Puppy Creek Road, which will be north of and parallel to the new bypass. The re-aligned Puppy Creek Road will connect with the Sharp Springs Road and East Brown Road intersection, forming a new four-way stop. South of the bypass, the existing Puppy Creek Road will terminate at a cul-de-sac. Construction of the new Puppy Creek Road is estimated to be completed by mid-October, weather permitting.

Advance warning signs will be placed to notify traffic approaching the closures. Barricades will be put in place at the points of closure. The public is reminded that areas beyond the barricades are an active work zone. Moving or driving around barricades places the driver in the work zone, which endangers the driver and the contractor's employees alike.

This project is part of AHTD's Connecting Arkansas Program and constructs approximately four miles of the new four-lane U.S. Highway 412 Northern Bypass, which extends from Interstate 49 to State Highway 112. The U.S. Highway 412 Northern Bypass project will provide a principal east-west route north of the Springdale Metropolitan Area.
