LITTLE ROCK (8-20) – Construction of a new overpass bridge for Grimsley Road will require a traffic shift onto a temporary road that has been constructed west of Willis Shaw Elementary School in Springdale, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

The contractor is constructing approximately four miles of the new four-lane U.S. Highway 412 Northern Bypass, which extends from Interstate 49 to State Highway 112. To continue with construction, northbound and southbound traffic on Miller and Grimsley Roads will be relocated to the temporary road, which is west of their existing alignments and adjacent to Willis Shaw Elementary. The temporary road begins north of Bridgegate Avenue and extends approximately 0.3 miles to the north.

This traffic shift will affect school traffic. A new driveway has been constructed from the detour road to the school's front parking lot. School traffic queuing for child pickup will operate as normal. Traffic will be controlled using barrels, traffic barriers and warning signs.

The transition will occur Sunday, August 23, weather permitting. This configuration is expected to continue until the West Miller Road bridge over the new U.S. Highway 412 Northern Bypass is complete.

The U.S. Highway 412 Northern Bypass project will provide a principal east-west route north of the Springdale Metropolitan Area. More information on this $100.6 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.
