LITTLE ROCK (8-24) Work to construct the interchange that connects Interstate 49 to the new U.S. Highway 412 Northern Bypass requires overnight lane closures on Interstate 49 in Benton County, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

The contractor will be installing a precast barrier wall along northbound and southbound Interstate 49, beginning north of Exit 76 (Wagon Wheel Road) and ending south of Exit 78 (State Highway 264). This will require closing lanes within the work zone. Once the precast barrier wall is in place and all lanes reopened, lane widths will be reduced to 11 feet.

Northbound I-49 will be reduced to one lane Tuesday, August 25, between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., weather permitting.

Southbound I-49 will be reduced to one lane Wednesday, August 26, between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., weather permitting.

Northbound and Southbound I-49 will close the outside lanes only from Wednesday, August 26 through Saturday, September 12, between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., weather permitting.

Traffic will be controlled using barrels, electronic message boards and warning signs.

This project is part of AHTD's Connecting Arkansas Program and constructs approximately four miles of the new four-lane U.S. Highway 412 Northern Bypass, which extends from Interstate 49 to State Highway 112. The U.S. Highway 412 Northern Bypass project will provide a principal east-west route north of the Springdale Metropolitan Area.
