GARLAND & SALINE COUNTIES (12-4) – Construction work to widen U.S. Highway 70 in Garland and Saline Counties requires lane closures, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT) officials.
Beginning Monday, December 4, crews will perform paving work on U.S. Highway 70 in multiple locations, which will require flagging operations and lane closures. Weather permitting, the lane closures will occur between Monday, December 4 and Saturday, December 9, between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
- At Crossroads Road
Eastbound and westbound lanes will alternately be closed on U.S. Highway 70 east and west of Crossroads Road.
- At State Highway 128
Eastbound and westbound lanes will alternately be closed on U.S. Highway 70 east and west of State Highway 128. Flagging operations will control traffic through the intersection.
- At County Road 1381
Eastbound and westbound lanes will alternately be closed on U.S. Highway 70 beginning at County Road 1381 and ending half a mile east of the county road.
Motorists are encouraged to consider alternate routes during construction, including U.S. Highway 270. The public is advised to be cautious when traveling in the work zone at reduced speeds, and speeding fines double within the work zone.
This project (Job CA0610) is part of ArDOT's Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening 17.5 miles of U.S. Highway 70 from I-30 in Benton (Exit 111) west to the interchange with U.S. Highway 70 Business in Hot Springs (Exit 6). The highway is being widened to two lanes in each direction with a continuous center turn lane. The project is anticipated to be complete in mid 2018.
