WASHINGTON & BENTON COUNTIES (8-11) – Construction work on I-49 in Springdale requires overnight lane closures on I-49, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.
Continuing on Sunday night, August 14, crews will remove temporary concrete barriers, resurface existing lanes, and place the final surface on the median lane and shoulder on northbound and southbound lanes of I-49. Lane closures will be south of the Spring Creek bridges (south of Elm Springs Interchange, Exit 73) and extend to the Wagon Wheel Road overpass (Exit 76). The median and outside lanes of I-49 will alternately be closed during this time period to allow for construction.
The overnight lane closures will occur nightly starting on Sunday, August 14 and ending Friday morning, August 19, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using signage and barrels.
Northbound I-49 lane closures will occur between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Southbound I-49 lane closures will occur between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
This project is part of AHTD's Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening
3.4 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from U.S. Highway 412 to Wagon Wheel Road in Springdale. The project is anticipated to be complete in late 2016. More information on this $21.6 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.
