BENTON COUNTY (10-14) – Construction work on I-49 in Bentonville requires overnight lane closures on State Highway 72 (East Central Avenue), according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Beginning Sunday night, October 16, crews will restripe lanes on State Highway 72 in Bentonville, and the eastbound and westbound lanes will alternately be closed between McCollum Drive and Northeast McClain Road. Traffic will be shifted into the center lane during the striping to allow a single lane of traffic to remain open in each direction. After the striping is complete, a barrier wall will be placed on the eastbound lane to create a protective work zone, and two 11-foot lanes will serve eastbound and westbound traffic during construction.

The lanes will be closed nightly from Sunday night, October 16 through Friday morning, October 21 from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using signage and barrels.

This project (Job CA0902) is part of AHTD's Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening 3.5 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from Highway 62/102 to Highway 72 and includes constructing auxiliary lanes from Highway 62/102 toward Southeast Walton Boulevard. More information on this $27.7 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.

Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ArkansasHighways.com. You can also follow us on Twitter @AHTD.
