BENTON COUNTY (4-24) – Construction to widen I-49 in Bentonville requires a section of the Arkansas Missouri Trail at the Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) to be temporarily closed, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.
Beginning Monday, May 1 and continuing through Friday, May 5, trail reconstruction will require closing the trail, which crosses below I-49 between Phyllis Street and Southeast Eagle Way. Advance warning signs and barricades will be in place to communicate the trail's closure.
This project (Job CA0902) is part of AHTD's Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening 3.5 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from Highway 62/102 to Highway 72 and includes constructing auxiliary lanes from Highway 62/102 toward Southeast Walton Boulevard. Construction is expected to complete in late 2017. More information on this $27.7 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.
Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ArkansasHighways.com. You can also follow us on Twitter @AHTD.
