August 4, 2014
LITTLE ROCK (8-4) – The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) has announced a permanent closure of McMillan Road between Punkin Hollow Road and Howland Road in Benton County. The closure is scheduled to begin Aug. 7.
The closure is necessary to begin embankment work associated with constructing the next section of the Bella Vista Bypass (Highway 549/Future Interstate 49). The closure will terminate on each side of the new bypass, approximately half a mile from the Punkin Hollow Road intersection and six-tenths of a mile from the Howland Road intersection. Please note project signing indicating the closure.
Once McMillan Road is closed, traffic can use Miller Church Road as an alternate route to connect between Punkin Hollow and Howland roads.
This project is constructing approximately 6 miles of the bypass, extending from Highway 71B to Highway 72 South. The project involves the initial two lanes of a four-lane facility. The project is part of the Connecting Arkansas Program, which is funded through a 10-year, half-cent sales tax. The CAP's 35 projects in 19 corridors are improving Arkansas' transportation system by expanding selected two-lane roadways to four-lane highways and adding new lanes to identified interstate highways. Motorists should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ArkansasHighways.com. You can also follow us on Twitter @AHTD.
