After a year of construction, the new North James Street Bridge over Highway 67/167 in Jacksonville is scheduled to open to traffic Monday, October 21.

The year-long closure was required to construct bridge footings while maintaining Highway 67/167 main lane traffic. The new bridge is part of the larger project to widen Highway 67/167 to six lanes between Main Street and Vandenberg Boulevard in Jacksonville.

The new bridge will reconnect access between John Harden Drive and T.P. White Drive. One lane in each direction will be open to traffic and three-way-stops will be in place at both intersections with the frontage roads.

The bridge closed on October 23, 2023, and was estimated to remain closed for one year. As promised, the new bridge will open within the estimated time frame. Continued construction on the bridge will result in a total of two lanes being opened in each direction and signal lights being installed at both frontage road intersections.

Traffic will be controlled with traffic barrels and barricades. The public is advised to be cautious when traveling in the work zone and watch for slower traffic speeds. Areas adjacent to the Interstate may experience noise impacts during nighttime hours.

This project (Job CA0604) is part of ARDOT’s Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening 2.5 miles of Highway 67 to six lanes, between Main Street (Exit 9) and Vandenberg Boulevard (Exit 11) in Jacksonville. The project also includes improvements at the James Street interchange (Exit 10A), the Gregory Street Interchange (Exit 10B), the Vandenberg Boulevard interchange (Exit 11), and conversion of the Frontage roads from two-way to one-way.
